Experience:
From 1993 to1998, Mr. Yuan worked as PSC officer, ISM auditor and marine accident investigation officer for the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration. In 1999 he joined Wang Jing & Co. Between March and October 2004, he was trained at Richards Butler, Steamship Mutual P&I Club, and Skuld P&I Club. Since 2006, Mr. Yuan leads Team II of the Admiralty Group and since July 2007 became director of the Firm's Qingdao Branch. Mr. Yuan made partner in January 2008.
Mr. Yuan is experienced in dealing with matters involving collisions, salvage, compulsory removal of wreck, oil & chemical pollution, carriage of washed ore, lien on vessel, maritime liens, mortgage of ships, limitation of liability for maritime claims, cargo claims, bills of lading, etc. He has unique expertise in investigating wet cases and taking statements from crew.
In 2002, Mr. Yuan was granted the Chevening Scholarship for the year 2003 to further his studies in Britain, for his excellent performance at work and proficiency in his business. He returned to Guangzhou in October 2004. In 2006, Mr. Yuan was granted an LLM from Sun Yat-sen University.
Over the years, Mr. Yuan has dealt with many important collision and oil pollution cases, including China's biggest oil pollution case arising out of collision (calculated as per the amount of leakage). Mr. Yuan is also regular legal counsel of many shipyards, providing legal advice in respect of ship repair, shipbuilding, mortgage and registration of vessel.
